Las revoluciones en el diseño son en numerosas ocasiones impulsadas por los avances en tecnología y materiales. La famosa Silla Wassily también conocida como Modelo B3 es precisamente un ejemplo de ello. Diseñada por Marcel Breuer en 1925-26 mientras era director del taller de ebanistería en la Bauhaus, este hizo propio el interés de la escuela por los materiales industriales y las técnicas de fabricación y experimentó con el tubo de acero extruido para crear una serie de muebles de metal que pasaría a la historia.
